JP Allen – How To Play The Harmonica
Arichive : Preview
Here’s the Amazingly Obvious Secret that so Many Now-Successful Harmonica Players Have Thanked Me for Delivering to Them…
If you’re a non-musician or a struggling harmonica player that yearns to have great time playing the songs you love with soul and feeling, please know this: Your lack of success is NOT…
…because you’re musically hopeless … or because you don’t own the correct harmonica … or because you don’t practice “enough”… or because you’re tone deaf…
None of the Above! The reason you may be feeling stuck and are not able to freely jam is because of something much more simple… and much easier to solve…
Do you want to waste more time learning the slow way and developing bad habits? Or are you finally ready to liberate a life long harmonica adventure that will bring a spark of joy to your life…and inspire anyone who is fortunate enough to hear you play?
Want to discover how JP has helped thousands of students fulfill their dream of playing harmonica and learn their favorite songs in record time? Okay, then. Let’s begin…
From JP Allen...
Hello Harmonica Lover,
I want you to be able to do more than just play songs…I want you to play your favorite songs with soul and feeling.
Harmonica is without a doubt one of the easiest instruments to learn. If that’s the case, then why do the majority of people get frustrated, and often quit?
Most harmonica books overwhelm students by
teaching them songs BEFORE they are ready
This just leads to bad habits and a whole lot of frustration…
Students end up learning songs but they don’t sound good. Their playing is stiff, airy, and they often make a lot of mistakes.
There’s an Easier Way to Play Your Favorite Songs and Sound Good (and it’s a whole lot more fun)…
In His First 5 Minutes of Playing,
A Random Stranger
Was Ripping On a Microphone
When you are actually playing harmonica musically you will feel an energy of enthusiasm bubbling up inside of you. And, guess what: It’s going to feel good when others encourage you to keep it up (instead of trying to take the wind out of your sails).
Because, within the first few weeks of playing, most try to learn songs with a tight mouth position. This is a bad habit that will cripple your forward progress.
Does Your Playing Ever Sound Stiff or Airy?
Guess what? It’s unlikely that there’s anything wrong with your harmonica. It’s more likely you’re developing bad habits by tightly puckering your lips.
The Deep Relaxed Mouth Embouchure is the key to playing songs with a sweet, bluesy tone.
Why do students tightly pucker their lips if it’s a bad habit that will completely cripple their forward progress?
Because most harmonica books and teachers explain this essential technique improperly!
Because tightly puckering your lips may offer you a quick start. But it’s a dead-end street!
RECOMMENDATION: I definitely want you to succeed whether or not you get my lessons, so please practice this technique in front of a mirror to make sure you’re maintaining the proper angle of the harmonica.

You Can Play On Stage In Less Than Two Months
(If You Want To!)
“Two months and I’ll be ready to play on stage…? Not on your life! Besides, JP, I don’t really care about playing on stage, I just want to play for my own enjoyment…”
That’s cool. You definitely picked the best instrument to have fun with. But wouldn’t it be cool to know that in your back pocket at any moment you have the ability to make people happy?
Some students want to play in a band or jam with friends.
Some want to play in a church choir
Some want to make kids happy
Most of my students are happy to just play for their own enjoyment.
No matter what your goals, I know that if I learned, you can learn too…
I Picked Up the Harmonica at Northwestern University After One of My Best Friends Died In A Motorcycle Wreck
I was so depressed I couldn’t study or eat.
My musician friend, John, was determined to cheer me up. He asked me if I wanted to go to the music store to buy a harmonica. I told him, “No.”
I was not a natural-born musician and I didn’t come from a musical family. In fact, I quit piano as a kid and felt like a total musical failure.
But John helped me out of my rut and treated me to my very first harmonica.
I fell so in love with playing music, it pulled me out of my depression. And whenever I felt sad or lonely, the harmonica was always around to make me feel better.

“I can play and jam With my friends now”
I almost feel like I have been more trouble than most with the harmonica… I tried a few books, some basic CD’s. Everyone said to me “Oh the harp is easy Just Figure It Out and play it all the time”. Just Figure It Out…rrrrrrrrrr. Yea OK! So after a bunch of years on and off (3-4) I thought, I will never figure this thing out.
Long story short, I can play and jam with my friends now and have the ability to keep up, when they start to improvise. This only after watching your free lessons on your site and a few days with your Beginners Bundle. I am no JP Allen, but I can at least “Figure It Out” now thanks to you. Tonight was Band Practice. Had a blast. Deep Relaxed Embouchure!!!!!!! Again thank you for your generosity, not needed but very much appreciated. 😉

“I am actually playing. I sound good already, and I know what I am doing!”
JP, I am so glad I purchased your package of instructional lessons. I am only on the 5th lesson but decided to take a second and write you because I cannot believe that I am actually playing. I sound good already, and I know what I am doing, which is a first!, and it feels good. I am thoroughly enjoying your style of teaching, and your passion for the instrument shines through. Fantastic work, the packaging is perfect, the quality is excellent—I am giving you 5/5 stars!

“You make it fun!”
I just received my lessons and harmonica on Friday and wanted you to know what a tremendous help they are to me. I worked thru the core essentials and getting campfire ready lessons last night and feel confident that I will make even more progress as time goes by. You make it fun to learn! Thanks again for the phone call and how quickly the lessons got to me.
~ Ed Minturn
“Bamboozled by the speed of my progress”
I just received your Beginner Discount bundle. I began practicing immediately. Thanks to the comprehensive and outstanding instruction of yours I am flabbergastingly bamboozled by the speed of my progress. – Who says you can’t teach new tricks to an old dog (54!) 😉 I do look forward to my learning especially when I come to the Blues part of the course.

“Your Lessons have allowed me To ‘Show off’ some for my friends and family”
I just stumbled onto your remarkable set of lessons that really do work! I love the more challenging things that you do in the later lessons, but you are telling your secrets! I am just starting out with the harmonica. It IS really great for the lungs. Your lessons have allowed me to “show off” some for my friends and family. I have always liked some bluesy rock and roll music, but thanks to you, a whole new world of true blues music has been opened up. The masters really rock! I love popping in a blues CD and just playing along. Sometimes it sounds really good! Thanks for all that you do!

“I have already learned so much…you make it very easy”
I just bought your beginner’s lessons and have watched the first and second lessons twice and jammed with the first lessons. I have already learned so much. I am so thrilled and excited to learn the harmonica and you make it very easy.
~ Denise Klein
“The most rewarding music achievement of my life. No kidding.”
So here I sat with this harmonica on my desk with your lessons and I said I will give it one more chance. I found your web site. The rest has been the most rewarding music achievement of my life. No kidding. I really can’t believe it.
I stuck that dang thing in my mouth the way you said to and out came single notes. Like magic. The notes came. The music in my head started to make sense to my ear. I learned what cross harp meant. I could do it. Yes, I got stuck on bends. Couldn’t bend for my life. But your encouragement and personal attitude enabled me to suck it up and now it is working. You were talking right to me. At least the easy bends ( 3 and 4) are now working. It is hard to describe what a thrill it is. Riding along and trying to play with Muddy Waters and all the Blues greats.
~ Warner B. Swarner
“Very easy to learn from”
Straight after I had got home from work tonight I worked through the first lesson and really loved it! JP is very easy to learn from and I liked how that it was still fun. I’m really looking forward to working through the rest and improving as a harmonica player!
~ John Hobson
I received as a birthday gift from my children your full set of videos and the two harmonicas. I’m enjoying them tremendously. I went to a couple of the lessons at Stanford, but felt they were too slow, and happened to see your website. My children asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told them to pitch in and order your lessons. I’ve been practicing ever since! At first I couldn’t hold those long blow notes, but now I am able to. WooHoo.
~ Kitty Heggem
“Started jamming with my pals only after two weeks of practising!”
Your lessons are amazing. They are very very clear. They are so good that since day one I started blowing and drawing my harp and enjoying almost every minute of it. Even the bendings started coming out pretty soon (still got trouble with some holes, but I keep on improving). And what’s more important for me is that the lessons are MOTIVATING. It’s always a pleasure watching you share your enthusiasm and optimism. It’s contagious. And I can add one more thing. I’m a guitar player in two bands. You can believe me if I tell you that I started jamming with my pals (playing harp, I mean) only after two weeks of practising!
~ Javier Sanchez
“The tongue technique you described made a HUGE difference”
I received my kit today and watched the core essentials lessons…then i got to the bending section …OMG. this ranks right up there. The tongue technique you described made a HUGE difference. I can’t believe i can finally bend all the notes from 1 – 6 AND i can now do this consistently… and that’s after only a few minutes on the bending section…i haven’t even gotten to the ‘finally bending’ lessons yet. i am so pumped now i can’t believe. jp…thank you man…you are a freakin’ genius.
~ Peter Almeroth
“I love the way you explain the little things”
Case in point: I stopped and watched while you explained two things: 1) how to get a single note by puckering your lower lip, and leaving the upper lip relaxed. 2) How to bend a note in holes 1 – 6. You know what? It worked for me first time!! I’m playing single notes and bending them at will, and then relaxing my ambrachure and playing the strait “unbent” note too! I am a complete beginner, not having played any harmonica until about 2 weeks ago! I can’t believe it! This is fantastic.

“Your Lessons have pulled me out of my slump”
JP, I wanted to send you quick email to thank you. I was stuck in my harmonica playing and getting very frustrated. Your lessons have pulled me out of my slump. Thank you again for your commitment.

“In a very few minutes I found myself actually playing”
I was very nervous about embarking on this new journey of playing the harmonica – at my age change is not always a successful venture. Well, I was soooo very wrong! Your harmonica package makes this new journey an exciting adventure because it’s very well done and beyond belief easy. I spent the entire day watching your all your lessons and trying different things you were showing and to my surprise everything you said in the lessons worked when I tried it. In a very few minutes I found myself actually playing along with you and doing very well.
Everyone talks about the difficulty of “bending” notes. Well, when I played your lesson on “bending” I was able to bend on my first try! What a GREAT sound! And, it was me making that sound in the first hour of your lessons.
~ Bill Manning

Your lessons were the best. You give usable examples for every single technique/trick.
Hello Mr. Allen! I live in India and I’ve been doing your rhythm lessons and I’ve gotta admit, they are amazing!! I searched the web for online lessons. Your lessons were the best. You give usable examples for every single technique/trick. I’ve improved a lot!

“I am very grateful that someone is going to finally show me how to bend the notes”
I just bought your lesson package, and have been studying the first and second lessons. I really enjoy watching you and the obvious passion that colors your every move and riffs. I can carry it anywhere and play or practice at any time as well. I started playing only 3 months ago, and my book told me to do everything that you said not to do! So I bought your lessons package. I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I appreciate what you are doing. I am very grateful that someone is going to finally show me how to bend the notes…I don’t think I have ever heard anyone better than you!
~ Stephen Bingell
“Thousands of hours of pleasure”
Hey JP, Dave Baughman here (Jesse’s dad). Jesse’s very pleased with the equipment and very appreciative of your kindness and generosity. So am I. He doesn’t get that sort of service very often, nor equipment that actually performs well for him. I’m sure you’ve given him thousands of hours of pleasure. He’s working his way through the first lessons with joy and success. Here’s a picture of Jesse…
~ Dave Baughman
“I’m already starting to get it”
The harmonica always intimidated me because I knew there were 20 possible notes to hit on that small little instrument. But over the years I would hear people play and it kept calling me. Finally at the age of 43 I figured I’m either going to do it or die someday wondering why I didn’t. After a couple of weeks I now find myself finding the 4 or 6 or 3 hole by the feel of where my hands are and not really having to look at the harmonica. I was also terrified at the prospect of bending. But I’m already starting to get it. I can’t get the exact tone I want yet but I am changing the note a little bit. And that’s more than enough encouragement to say, “Hey, I can do this.” Very excited and having fun. You know, just because someone is good at what they do, it doesn’t mean they can teach it. YOU CAN!!!
~ Rob Ward
“Truly gives you the feeling of jammin. It’s great!”
Thanks a million! I began practicing with “Getting the Campfire Ready” yesterday; you have done a tremendous job of putting this all together. Everything is very clear and the repetition with the guitar accompaniment truly gives you the feeling of jammin. It’s great!
~ Mike Kessler
“Your lessons make it more fun”
Thanks so much for your dedication as a teacher. I am a forth year student on the guitar ( been on my own last year because my teacher passed away) and always wanting to learn more. Your instruction video lesson I took today was my first. It was very encouraging and informative. I played in the safe zone…lol. Then I tried to strum some chords and play, …it was awesome. Your lessons make it more fun. Again…Thanks!
~ Dean Anoia
“In just 3hrs i learned single notes and how to bend in just a week”
I’m learning to play harmonica as i love the sound and admire the people who play. But i could not find any one to teach me, so i found you on the web, in just 3hrs i learned single notes, i was so happy. I am so happy with your lessons thank you so much. I have learned lots even how to bend in just a week. I am loving every minute.
~ Sally Loveridge
“Without your lessons I think I would not have the direction to improve”
First of all, I have to tell you, that I’m having a blast with your lessons. I bought the whole package in February and have gone through almost all the discs. I have always wanted to play an instrument but never kept at it. I believe I have found my instrument. I am making progress every day. I practice chugging rhythms, bending in tune, and drawing in tune. Without your lessons I think I would not have the direction to improve by the way you structure it all. Thanks again for creating these lessons. It has brought this 42 year old a new purpose and joy in life.
~ David Montour
